Salvation begins with hearing and believing the gospel. Without that, no one can get saved. This is why the preaching of the gospel is of the utmost importance. According to Romans 1:16, the gospel of Christ when it is believed, grants the believers the power to receive salvation. This is identical to the point of John 1:10-12. This article breaks down the message of the gospel into 4 points for easy comprehension and sharing.

Introduction
Salvation begins with hearing and believing the gospel. Without that, no one can get saved. This is why the preaching of the gospel is of the utmost importance. In Romans 1:16, the Bible says:
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16 .
The three very important things that must not be overlooked in the above verse are:
- the gospel of Christ
- the power of God unto salvation
- every one the believeth
According to the above verse, the gospel of Christ when it is believed, grants the believers the power to receive salvation. This is identical to the point of John 1:10-12:
John 1:10-12 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
The way to receive Christ is through “the gospel of Christ”. Which means that an unsaved person has to hear and believe the gospel in other to be saved. as you can see, this point agrees with Ephesian 1:13:
Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise.

The process of getting saved is by hearing the word of truth which is also the gospel, and believing. So, what happens to those who do not know what the gospel is but have only repeated the sinner’s prayers? Can they be saved without hearing and believing the gospel? I do not think so!
The process of getting saved is by hearing the word of truth which is also the gospel, and believing.

What is the Gospel?
The message of the gospel is not complicated. It is actually very simple. It is all about what Christ did, the blood that He shed, for our sins. Take a look at the passage below:
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 ¶ Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.
The gospel can be broken down as follows:
1. You are a Sinner and Your Sin Have Price
Everyone who is alive today has sinned and come short of the glory of God. What that means is that you’ve been disqualified from saving yourself or getting to God on your own.
Ecclesiastes 7:20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God
1 John 1:8-10 ¶ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
The wages of sins:
The wages of sin, the Bible says, is death. This means that a sinner will die and go to hell where he will suffer in the fire for all eternity. It’s not made up, that’s what the Bible says. Only those who do not believe in Hell will argue this point. But such people will find out the truth in less than 5 minutes after they have died.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
James 1:14-15 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
2. You Cannot Save Yourself
There is nothing you can do on your own to save yourself. Apart from Christ and His redemptive works, you’re lost in your sins.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Titus 3:5-7 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

3. Christ Died for You and Paid the Price
Jesus Christ suffered in our place. The Bible says the wages of sin is death. Christ loved us enough to die for our sin. There is no greater love than that (John 15:13). Through His suffering, death, burial, and resurrection, Christ paid the full penalty of our sins. His sacrifice was accepted by God on our behalf.
The blood that Jesus shed on the cross is the center point of the gospel. Without it, we could not receive the forgiveness of sin. If sinners have to trust in His blood to be saved, we cannot preach the gospel without mentioning the blood. It is through the blood of Jesus Christ that we have redemption (Ephesian 1:7; Colossians 1:14).
Romans 5:6-8 ¶ For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

4. You Must Believe in Him
You must believe. “Believe what?” Believe the above 3 points. A sinner must believe with his heart that Christ has died for his sins and that He rose from the death for his justification. This is what it means to believe in Jesus. When you believe this with all your heart, your sins will be forgiven you. This is why Jesus Christ died and rose again.
But not only will your sins be forgiven, you will also at the moment receive the gift of eternal life.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
Ephesians 1:13-14 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
