Urgent situations need urgent actions. Your greatest need in life is to be rescued from eternity apart from God. This study shows you the means to that rescue.

In this Article:

Introduction

Everyone has needs, but one need is greater than the other. Have you identified your greatest need? And what are you doing about it? What I’m really asking you is how will you respond to Jesus Christ? And before you click away, let me tell you this:

There is a God, He created you, and you are accountable to Him. Neither your belief nor your unbelief can change that reality. There is a sad and unfortunate conclusion in the Bible where it refers to some people as fools. If you’re wondering who they are, these are those who have rejected God.

“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.” Psalm 14:1

The question for you today is: are you wise or foolish? The answer depends on whether you can identify your greatest need or not.

Your Greatest Need

Many people are rejecting Jesus Christ, and in doing so, they think they are being smart and/or intellectual. They want to judge everything by their own logic. There are others who think that they are too religious to need Jesus Christ. They are counting on their own performance to stand before God which is obviously an exercise in futility.

But what they do not realize is that they are ignoring or rejecting something which they absolutely need, and which is free!

A Rear Combination

This is a rear combination in our world. You typically don’t come across something that is an absolute necessity and yet completely free of charge. Unless of course it comes directly from God because of His love.

But that is what salvation through Jesus Christ is. You cannot survive the judgment of God without it, and yet it costs you nothing to receive it other than faith in Jesus Christ who has paid the price in full.

John 3:16-18 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

The Analogy of Rejecting Your Greatest Need

Let me share with you some illustrations of what it means to reject Jesus Christ. Think about the following scenarios.

1. A Necessity Desperately Needed

Assuming there is something you desperately need in your life now. Everyone has a need, but for you, this one makes the difference between life or death. And think of a loved one showing up at your house with that thing packaged for you free of charge, no strings attached, will you reject it?

Will you begin to wonder if the gift was real or if the person’s motives were right? Or if it is contrary to your philosophy of life? Or would you accept it with thanks and address your desperate need?

What will you do?

2. A Recuse from Drowning

Imagine yourself drowning in the ocean, you look around you and all you see is water, with no sign of dry land. Now imagine someone showing up in a boat and willing to rescue you and take you home for free, will you refuse him?

Remember, you’re drowning!

Will you begin to analyze his boat, and asking him for his boat license or his identification? Will you tell him, you know what, I’m good in the water, I will swim my way to dry land, when in fact you’re drowning? Or will you give him your hand and let him save your life from drowning?

What will you do?

3. A Rescue from Scorching Flames

One more for you, imagine yourself in a house fire, the entire building is in flames and you are nowhere close to the exit. You have just seconds before the whole building collapses, but in the meantime, you are already being poisoned by the massive smoke. You open your eyes and a fireman shows up next to your window on a ladder, asking you to step in with him and be rescued, will you refuse the offer?

Will you be asking him to prove to you his ability to save you? Will you begin to ask him what qualifies him to be a fireman? Or whether his ladder was trustworthy? Or will you jump in and let him save your life from the flames?

What will you do?

There is no one in his right mind who will reject such offers. But that is exactly what you are doing by rejecting the free offer of salvation through Jesus Christ.

Living on the Edge

An unsaved person is living on the edge of condemnation and destruction. This is because dying without Christ means that you will face not only the judgment, but also the wrath of God. You only have the chance to address this while you are still alive. There is no room for forgiveness in the grave.

Plus, you are not promised tomorrow. You’re not even guaranteed to live till the end of today. So, if you are reading this now, don’t delay your acceptance of Christ. This might be your last opportunity. Therefore, heed the warning of Scripture before it is too late!

Hebrews 9:27-28 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: 28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

What Christ Has Done to Rescue You

You need to be saved and be reconciled to God. That is because everyone (without exception) has sinned and has been separated from God due to their sins. Check out this link to learn more about why salvation is essential.

The Bible says “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23), that is eternity in the lake of fire. There, you will be eternally separated from God in weeping and gnashing of teeth. That is over a billion times worse than a house fire.

But Jesus has come, suffered and died in your place. He took your punishment on Himself. He shed His precious blood on the cross for your forgiveness, and He rose again for your justification. This He did not because you deserve it. No one deserves it. He did it because He loves you!

Listen to the Bible:

Romans 5:6-8 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Titus 3:3-6 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. 4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

No One is Good Enough for That

We do not deserve it and absolutely cannot merit it. It was all because of the kindness and love of God toward you that Christ sacrificed Himself for you. And if you believe that He did all that for you, you will be saved and be reconciled to God. You will be rescued from eternity in the lake of fire. This is a serious matter!

Why in the world would you say NO to that? What exactly do you have to lose by believing in Jesus Christ? You have absolutely nothing to lose but all to gain!

There is the peace with God which you get for being reconciled to Him, the awesome and abundant life that Jesus promises to those who believe in Him, eternity in the presence of God where you, in your glorified state, will continuously rejoice and worship in His presence, just to name but a few.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

John 10:27-30 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and my Father are one.

Salvation is Essential – Don’t Ignore Your Greatest Need

Rejecting Jesus Christ is rejecting what you cannot afford to lose.

Being lost or being unsaved is worse than lacking the necessities of this life. It is worse than drowning in the ocean with no help in sight. And worse than being caught in a burning building with no hope of getting out. This is because until you’re saved, you are in trouble with God. And no one can rescue you from that trouble except God Himself!

Do Not Delay

I just showed you the means to the rescue that you desperately need. Accepting Jesus Christ costs you nothing, He has paid the price for your salvation in full (John 19:30). All you need to do is believe in what Christ did for you and you will be saved. And listen, this is an urgent case, you can only receive Christ while you are still alive.

But remember, as I have mentioned before, no one is promised tomorrow. And there will be no room for repentance after you have died. Here is that passage again:

Hebrews 9:27-28 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: 28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

So, make the wise choice and do not delay! Jesus has His arms open toward you and ready to receive you, run to Him today He will save you.
