Introduction
The Bible is the Word of God. That statement is probably the most disputed of all statement. For one reason or the other, some people just want to reduce the Bible to mere collection of man’s writings. But the Bible itself testifies to the truth that it was indeed given by God.
How We Got the Bible
Every word written in the Bible is inspired by God (God-breathed). This is clearly stated in 2 Timothy 3:16 in addition to the roles of the Word of God in the life of the one who reads, believes, and obeys it:
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
God gave us His words through inspiration. This statement in the above verse may not make much sense until you read more about it. The inspiration of the Word of God is directly connected to some people. We learn about these people in the following verse where they are referred to as “holy men of God”:
2 Peter 1:20-21 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
God inspired and moved these men to write exactly what He wanted written. The result of this is the Bible, the very Word of God, tried and true (Psalm 12:6), completed without errors and accompanied with God’s promise to preserve it for ever (Psalm 12:7).
Psalm 12:6-7 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. 7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
More About the Bible
The Bible is the Book of Books. Each Book in the Bible has a beginning and end, as well as a central theme. Sadly, many people just see the Bible as a collection of verses that have no connection to one another. No wonder many verses are often taken out of context.
It took about 40 human writers over a period of about 1,500 years to write the entire content of the Bible. Many of these writers lived centuries apart, yet all the 66 Books harmonized to present the central theme of the Bible. The theme is to give us the knowledge of God and lead us to salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
As a testimony to its influence and popularity, the Bible is the world best-selling and most printed and translated book in the history of mankind. No other book is even close!
Over six billion (6,000,000,000) copies of the Bible have been printed in the past two thousand (2,000) years. The entire Bible has been translated to over two hundred (200) languages with various portions of it translated into more than two thousand (2,000) languages.
The Bible is the Book that you definitely want to take seriously.
