Salvation is the rescue from wrath. It is the necessity without which you cannot escape the wrath of God. But God has offered it freely through Jesus Christ.
Introduction
The concept of a free necessity is not common in our lives. A necessity is not typically free and sometimes, it comes with high cost. But that is not the case with the subject of this study, which is the necessity that only God can give. Not only has God given this necessity, He has given it freely to all! The question then is whether you have received it or not. And if not, why not?
The current season especially renews the thought of this in the minds of those who care about it. We celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. There is an important reason why He came, died and rose again. This is to provide us access to, or reconciliation with God. This study goes into all the details, so stick around and read on!
Among other things, you will learn the purpose for which Jesus Christ was born, what He offers through His death and resurrection, and how you can be saved through Him. If you are yet to decide how to respond to Jesus Christ, or maybe you’re previously unaware of what I cover in this study, today is the day to make that decision. I hope and pray that you will make the right choice.
The Necessity of Reconciliation
We have sinned against God (Romans 3:23) and have therefore become separated from Him. The ultimate wages of our sins is eternal separation from God, or eternity in the lake of fire! (Romans 6:23a; Revelation 21:8). There is therefore the need for reconciliation with God and restoration to our original position of acceptance.
Moreover, because of who we are, versus who God is, it is impossible for us to get to Him even if we are willing to do so. The good news however is that God Himself has come to us. This is part of the demonstration of His amazing love and grace toward sinful and rebellious people like myself and you!
Romans 5:7-8 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
The Necessity Bought by Blood
It took the death of the Son of God on the cross to buy our redemption and reconciliation, or simply put, the forgiveness of our sins. It is that important! Without being reconciled to God, or without being forgiven by God, we will face His wrath on the judgment day.
The forgiveness of your sins against God is therefore the necessity without which you cannot escape the judgment of God.
Necessary, Yet Freely Offered to All
The amazing part of this is that God has reconciled the world unto Himself. He now offers salvation (forgiveness of sin) freely to all who will humbly receive it by faith in Jesus Christ.
Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
At this point, I need you to pause and think about this: if you cannot live or survive without something (in this case, the salvation from the penalty and punishment of sin), and someone offers you that necessity at no cost to you, would you accept or reject it? Remember, you have nothing to lose!
The Role of Jesus Christ
This section takes us to the reason for this season of celebration. As I mentioned earlier, we use this time of the year to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. (I have to add though that those who care about it remember it every day of the year). And right in the center of God’s redemptive plan is Jesus Christ, God Himself (John 1:1-3), who came to this world in human form.
His humanity began at His birth, but He Himself has no beginning. As a matter of personal confession, how God manifested Himself in human form is completely beyond my comprehension. But I do not need to know all the details to trust in the Word of God.
Why Was Jesus Christ Born
What really led to God taking on the human form, living and dying among men? It is of utmost importance for everyone to know, not only why He came, but also what He did. The answer is simple though, He came to save the world. The angel who announced His birth says this to Joseph:
Matthew 1:21 And she [Mary] shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Jesus Christ says this about Himself as “the Son of man:”
Matthew 20:28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
His Apostle also writes about the same:
1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
What Jesus Christ Did for You
Jesus Christ gave His life for mine and yours. He suffered and died the painful death that you and I deserve. The innocent and sinless Son of God died for guilty and sinful sinners to live. In what is probably the most popular verse in the Bible, John 3:16, we read these words:
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.“
The love of God for the world, that is, you and I, made Him provide the way of reconciliation between us, His rebellious creatures, and Himself through His Son Jesus Christ. He gave His Son to suffer and die for the sins of the world. Jesus Christ is presented in the Bible as the “propitiation,” meaning the satisfaction of God’s holy demand for justice. That He did by shedding His blood on the cross (Romans 3:25). He is the Lamb sacrificed for our sins (John 1:29,36).
In another passage, called the Gospel, we read these words:
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
The above it the simple message of the gospel: that Christ died for our sins, He was buried, and He rose from the dead the third day.
The Choice You Must Make
As covered in the previous section, salvation is now made available to all who will receive it by faith. That is, faith in the completed work of Jesus Christ. In John 5:24, Jesus clearly states that:
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.“
Jesus has fully satisfied the wrath of God on your behalf. Now, what God requires for you to be forgiven and reconciled to Him is to trust in what Christ has done for you. When you believe in Jesus Christ and His completed work, you will be saved.
Christ has taken your sins upon Himself (1 Peter 2:24) and suffered for them in full (John 19:30), on your behalf. If you admit your sins and believe in what He did for you, you will get the perfect righteousness of Christ. You will be granted the gift of eternal life, eternity with God. This is why Jesus came, died, and rose again.
2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
1 John 5:11-12 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
Be aware that as there are benefits for accepting and trusting in Jesus Christ, there are also the consequences of rejecting Him.
In John 3:36, the Bible says:
“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
Christ Has Paid the Price
This point cannot be over-emphasized as many are still missing it. It is the most important part of the gospel. Christ has been punished on your behalf. On the cross, He fully paid the price for your sin (John 19:30). That leaves you with nothing else to do or pay for your salvation.
In other words, you are getting these eternal blessings on the account of Jesus Christ and His completed works. Not only that, you will keep this blessing of salvation for all eternity in the presence of God. This is a blessing that no one deserves, yet, God offers it freely to all.
What Do You Have to Lose?
Why in the world would you reject the offer of salvation? It costs you nothing, but it gives you everything. In other words, when you receive Jesus Christ as your Saviour, you have absolutely nothing to lose but everything to gain, even blessings you do not know exist today! Think about it…what then would you get for rejecting Jesus Christ?
Don’t be deceived by the so-called experts who themselves have no solution to offer other than telling you to trust them and disregard the truth of God. Many of them have become too smart to admit they are sinners or even that God exists, which is utter foolishness (Psalm 14:1).
It is also important for you not to be confused by or base your decision regarding this matter on popular or majority opinions. Truth is truth even if everyone rejects it. But the absolute truth comes only from God, and His Word has declared the way of salvation. Anything contrary to that is false!
On the judgment day, it will be you and Your Creator, God, when you will be held accountable for your choices. Why not make the right choice now and receive the free gift offered to you in Christ? You have nothing to lose but eternal life to gain.
Believe Today and Live
Believing is the only good choice that you can make. Trust alone in Jesus Christ and what He did for you. Believe that He died for you and rose again for your justification, and you will be saved. No need to justify yourself or deny your sin any longer. That is the case that you have already lost.
Acts 13:38-39 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: 39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
John 3:17-18 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Life or death, justification or condemnation, heaven or the lake of fire, the choice is yours. I have accepted Jesus Christ and trusted in His suffering and sacrifice on my behalf. I trust in the blood that He shed for me on the cross as the only way out of the penalty of my sins. I have chosen life! What about you?
